Alan was born under the name Alan Sidney Patrick Rickman on 21st February 1946 in Hammersmith, London to parents Bernard William Rickman and Margaret Doreen Rose.
His father was a factory worker and his mother was a housewife. Rickman was one of four siblings, brothers, David and Michael and sister Sheila. After his father died because of lung cancer when he was 8, he and his siblings were raised, by his mother who then started working in a post office.
He attended Latymer Upper School and Chelsea College of Art and Design. After passing out of college, he started a graphic design company named Graffiti along with his friends and worked there for 3 years, before finally pursuing acting as his professional career.
Rickman met his future wife Rima Horton at the age of 19. They started living together from 1977 and Rickman later revealed in 2012 that they had already gotten married. The couple stayed together until the end and had no children.
Death And Funeral
Rickman suffered a minor stroke on August of 2015 which was later diagnosed to be a symptom of pancreatic cancer. He disclosed the fact to his closest confidants only. On 14 January 2016, Rickman died in London at the age of 69.
His remains were cremated on February 3rd, 2016 in the West London Crematorium in Kensal Green. His ashes were given to his wife and his final two films, Eye in the Sky and Alice Through the Looking Glass, were dedicated to his memory.
