Chris Farley was born Christopher Crosby Farley on February 15, 1964, in Madison, Wisconsin, United States. He was born to father Thomas John Farley Sr., owner of an oil company, and mother Mary Anne Crosby, a homemaker. As for siblings, he has three brothers, Tom Jr., Kevin, and John and a sister, Barbara.

He belongs to American nationality and white by ethnicity. He is the descent of Irish ancestry and followed Roman Catholic. He studied at the Edgewood High School of the Sacred Heart. He was an alumnus of Marquette University in 1986 with degrees in communication and theater. He played rugby during his student life.
