The syndrome slowly took over the body of Prof Hawking leaving him lifelong on the wheelchair unable to speak in the 1970s except through a voice synthesizer. In the like manner, he received a computer program called Equalizer from Walter Woltosz, CEO of Words Plus. From this software, he could simply produce 15 words per minute by activating a switch using his fingers.

Later, he lost the sense and use of the hand. The software was updated in 2005 so that he could communicate with the movements of his cheek muscles. By 2009, he even could not drive his wheelchair independently. So the people from the Words Plus created a new method to drive his wheelchair by the simple movements of Hawking’s chin.

You would be surprised to know that in September 2013 Prof. wanted to do assisted suicide because of his terminal illness.
